After struggling with a $20 vacuum for shop and car cleanup, I bought the Metrovac. Sure enough, as others reported, it pulls a mighty vacuum and is relatively light and quiet. The container is large enough to clean Florida sand from our cars many times, and few grains escape its powerful suction. The power and size are remarkable. Less remarkable is overall quality. My unit arrived poorly packed with many small dents in the outer steel cannister. The short extension hose seems of good quality but the other accessories are thin plastic and are not precisely molded. The on-off switch is strictly 1940's and hard to reach. The handle seems taken from cheap luggage. Soft start motor technology would be a great help because the unit jerks significantly on startup. There are no legs or feet so if started on the ground, it is unstable and wants to roll away. A pair of "W" shaped legs welded to the shell would be a great help. I tried to purchase this vac from Amazon but they kept sending me busted machines for some reason. But once I got it from another site - WOW - this is the single most efficient and powerful vacuum I've ever had. It is GREAT!!!
I got the model with wheels and a strap for carrying up the stairs and extra long hose. It is perfect for hard to reach places. All I can say EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT. EVERY HOME SHOULD HAVE ONE.

This is hands down the most powerful vacuum cleaner/blower I've ever seen. The built quality and design seem WWII-like- almost acceptable, but could have been made from thicker metal, mine arrived all beat up because the manufacturer box has no padding, and amazon didn't do such a hot job packing their box either. The vacuum bag is rather small at maybe 4 to 6 cups, but so is the vaccum so who cares. The blower side is so powerful that the vaccum jumps around when you try to wrangle it when cleaning stuff, blowing whatever is nearby all over the place. I cannot wait to get a well packed one that I can dent up myself

Sturdy as a belt sander, the Sidewinder Hand Vac is an all-purpose household tool with a cleverly helpful feature--a nozzle that swivels 90 degrees to provide more flexibility in vacuuming hard-to-reach spots. This is helpful in vacuuming out tricky spaces, such as between moldings and doorjambs, or the concavities of recessed windows. The Sidewinder also has a powered brush roll, especially useful on rugs or fabrics.

The Sidewinder has a 20-foot power cord, a workable length for most any household room. The body of the hand vacuum is made of sturdy glitter-gold plastic, and the transparent collector receptacle end is a darker, smoky-gray in color. Its removable filter is made of a long-life, washable plastic weave. The ergonomically molded handle is designed so that the on/off button is in a comfortable position to be used with one hand.

Cleaning the Sidewinder Hand Vac is very easy. The collector cup detaches for easy emptying, and the filter is removable and can be washed in warm, soapy water. (The filter should be entirely dry before being replaced in the vacuum cleaner.) The motor/handle section is not immersible, and it is not advisable to put any of the components in the dishwasher. After dissatisfaction with several Dirt Devil models, I found the Hoover Sidewinder to be what I was looking for. Simple, bagless, and the brush is belt-driven off the motor so it keeps turning even when picking up moderately heavy debris. I keep it near the cat's area for sweeping up excess litter and dry catfood chunks. This quickly brought the Dirt Devils' vacuum-driven brushes to a halt but not the Sidewinder, and the Sidewinder was less expensive.

The Hoover sidewinder I purchased was used for the carpeted steps in my home. On the first use, the rotating brush stopped working and the machine began to smoke. When I called Hoover unsatisfied, they refused to take the machine back and told me to go get it serviced. I did this, and on the second use I had the same problem. The suction was great, but the brush kept getting stuck. I had to manually get it rotating after vaccuming each step. I once again was told to get it serviced....the service man said that the belt was stretched out. I was shocked that after 2 uses it needed a new belt.

I am so unhappy with this product and with customer service of Hoover. Obviously the machine is defective, and yet they won't refund my money or exchange the product.

We bought our vacuum cleaner 2 and a half months ago to vacuum out dinning room carpet, which we do once a week. Last week the rubber belt broke. This was after around 10 brief uses!!!

I went on the Hoover site, and the belt would cost $4, plus $6 dollars shipping....Well it turns out I've replaced it with one of those Livestrong yellow wristbands (now you can even find those types of wristbands of any color selling on the streets by $1) and the vacuum works perfectly!

What does that tell us about the cost of their technical support and durability of their parts? I leave it to you to conclude on that.

The vacuum cleaner arrived with no real instructions, just a sheet of paper with a drawing showing the parts, which was confusing. My model didn't have some of the parts shown on the drawing, and it had others that weren't there. Have so far used the vacuum for cleaning the car and it's very good. Have yet to try the leaf blowing option. The unit itself wheels around like a small canon. Hoses have good suction, even when fully extended. I would recommend it, but wish it came with proper instructions for both vacuuming and blowing.

I got tired of lugging the house vacuum cleaner into the garage to use, and then struggling with the short hose, etc. Bought one of these, with enough extension hoses to reach 24 ft. When wall mounted in the garage, the vacuum cleaner works well; 24 ft of hose doesn't reduce performance much at all. Suction is very strong. I'm pretty happy about being able to vacuum the two cars in the garage without ever having to move the small vacuum itself.

Lately, I've taken to using it around the house since it is so much more portable than the house vacuum cleaner! I should have bought one much earlier!

This product performed exactly as expected. The long hose is a series of shorter hoses that connect so you can adjust to the proper length. Suction/blowing power is sufficient for inside car cleaning and outside water blowing after wash. The canister has a set of wheels for easy movement, you don't need the wall mount. I have not tried it for leaf blowing yet as the main purpose was for car maintenance. There is an assortment of nozzles that contribute to the product's utility. Electrical cord is sufficiently long for most tasks.
